What’s in the free visual schedule

  • A First and Then board with two card slots, cut-ready
  • Six morning picture cards: wake up, toilet, get dressed, breakfast, brush teeth, shoes on
  • A one-page how-to with the tips that made it work in our kitchen
  • The cards are 52 mm, the same size as every Little Regulated Life kit, so they mix and match

How to use a First and Then board

Pick the pair. First the step your child finds hard, then the one they like: first get dressed, then breakfast. Hold the board where they can see it, point to each card and say the same short words every time. When the first step is done, take the card off, cheer, and move on to the Then card.

Use it at the same moments each day for a week before adding more steps. If a step is a struggle, split it in two: “get dressed” can become “pants and socks” and “top and trousers”.

Who it’s for

Autistic children, children with ADHD, and any child who finds it easier to follow pictures than words. Spoken instructions disappear the moment they’re said; a picture stays put. Parents use First and Then boards at home, teachers and SENCOs use them in class, and speech and language therapists use them for transitions.

Printing

Print on thin card if you can, cut along the thick blue borders and laminate for daily use. Hook-and-loop dots or a magnetic strip hold the cards in place. Colour looks best, but the cards read fine in black and white.
